About Me
Hi, I'm Laurien (she/her), a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and somatic trauma therapist. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, empowerment, and transformation. I believe our bodies are designed to heal on every level, including the healing of trauma in the nervous system. My support is focused on relational and attachment healing. I’m also a mom, wife, and friend of dogs. I love being in nature, being by water, connecting with others, and I value times of solitude. The mountains of Colorado have been my home for twenty-two years.
I have been a body-centered therapist since 2004. Early in my career I supported individuals and groups as a licensed massage therapist, Zen Shiatsu practitioner, and Yoga instructor. I have worked as a clinician in community mental health and recovery settings since 2018. After becoming an LCSW, I started my private practice in 2021. My focus is on individuals and couples struggling with anxiety, grief, disconnection, conflict, shame, attachment and childhood trauma, codependency, and life transitions. I offer a safe space where it’s okay to not feel okay. My therapy dog, Bee, loves people and offers her support too.
My Education & Training
I am grateful for the guides who have supported me in my healing journey. I have completed couples trainings with Terry Real and Stan Tatkin. My other teachers include Linda Thai, LMSW, Pia Mellody, Harriet Lerner, PhD, Brene Brown, MSW, PhD, Peter Levine, PhD, and Melody Beattie.
I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work from Colorado State University, and my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wheaton College. I hold certifications in Somatic Experiencing® (SEP), Yoga (CYT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Massage Therapy (no longer practicing). Additionally, I draw from my experience and education in Family Systems Therapy, Focusing, and my Yoga practice as I offer support and understanding to both individuals and couples on their healing journeys. I am continually learning, facilitating, or assisting in somatic individual and couples therapy trainings throughout the U.S. I engage in regular consultations to stay present and sharp.
My Approach: relational, down to earth, creative, nonjudgmental, body-centered, calming, warm, supportive.
